Off-leash training is the heart of Off Leash K9 Training Clarksville — it's literally our name. But we'll be straight with you about what that means: our goal is a dog you can trust off-leash, built through clear communication and real-world proofing. For most dogs, that's a life-changing amount of freedom. For a few, the honest answer is different — and we'll always tell you the truth.
What "Off-Leash Reliable" Actually Means
Off-leash training isn't a trick — it's a level of reliability. A truly off-leash-reliable dog will:
Come When Called
Rock-solid recall — even mid-sprint, even with a squirrel in sight.Stop on Command
An emergency "down" or "stop" that can save your dog's life near a road.Heel Without a Leash
Walk calmly at your side, no pulling, no wandering.Hold a Place
Stay put and settle, even with people, dogs, and noise around.Ignore Distractions
Stay focused on you around other dogs, traffic, and wildlife.Trust Both Ways
Freedom for your dog, peace of mind for you.🎖️ The Honest Truth About "100% Off-Leash"
A lot of trainers promise that every dog will be 100% off-leash. We won't make a promise we can't keep. Here's the reality after training 1,500+ dogs:
For the vast majority of dogs, we build genuine off-leash reliability — and it transforms their lives and yours. But every dog is an individual, and there are real exceptions:
- Dogs with serious aggression are safest kept under management and on-leash in public, even after excellent training. We focus on control, safety, and quality of life rather than pushing them off-leash where the stakes are too high.
- Dogs with severe anxiety or extreme prey drive may always need a leash or long-line in certain environments.
What we promise is simpler and more honest: we will give your dog the most reliable obedience they're capable of, and we'll tell you exactly what off-leash freedom realistically looks like for your dog — at the free evaluation, before you spend a dime.
The OLK9 Method — Why It Works
Our methodology doesn't come from a weekend certification. It comes from Jacob Robinson's 9 years in the Marine Corps, including 6 years as a Marine Special Operations (MARSOC) canine handler and a stint as lead instructor at Vohne Liche Kennels. We train family dogs with the same clarity, structure, and consistency used to train working K9s — scaled to your living room, not a battlefield.
How We Get Your Dog There
Three paths to the same destination — choose based on your time, budget, and your dog's needs:
Board & Train (fastest)
Your dog lives and trains with a pro for 1–4 weeks and comes home with the foundation built. Best for busy owners and tougher cases. See board & train →Private Lessons (hands-on)
You learn alongside your dog over 4–8 sessions. Best if you want to be the one doing the training. See obedience lessons →In-Home Training (convenient)
We come to you and train in your dog's real environment. See in-home →Is Off-Leash Training Safe? Is the E-Collar Humane?
Yes on both counts. We fit the e-collar properly and find your dog's lowest perceptible level — often a level you can barely feel on your own hand. It's used as a clear, consistent signal, never as a punishment. This is the same humane, communication-based approach used with police and military working dogs, and it's precisely what allows safe off-leash freedom. Most dogs reach reliable off-leash obedience in 2–4 weeks.
Who Off-Leash Training Is For
- Owners who want to hike, visit parks, and relax outdoors without a leash fight
- Dogs that bolt, ignore recall, or pull relentlessly
- High-energy and working breeds that need a job and clear rules
- Anyone who wants a calmer, more confident, more trustworthy dog
Not sure if your dog is a candidate? That's exactly what the free evaluation is for. Aggressive and severely anxious dogs are still welcome — we'll just be honest about whether the goal is full off-leash freedom or safe, reliable management.

"Off-leash reliable" describes a high level of trained obedience, not a guarantee that any dog will be perfect in every situation. Dogs with aggression, severe anxiety, or extreme prey drive may require ongoing management and on-leash handling for safety even after training. Every dog receives an individual assessment, and outcomes depend on the dog's temperament, history, and the owner's consistency with follow-through.
